Finally Their Eyes Looked In, Hull, London, Glasgow 1995

Co-commissioned by Hull Time Based Arts, London Electronic Arts and New Visions Festival with funding from the Arts Council of England's Film, Video and Broadcasting Department.

Concept: This piece was inspired by a 'televisual memory'. It was the six o'clock news - there was a report on about a hunt for a prisoner who had escaped. The image on the television screen was from the perspective of a helicopter - it was night-time, but the police helicopter was equipped with a thermal imaging camera - so we could see the image of a man running, moving between the trees, the heat from his body registering as white. This image stayed with me for a long time. There was something very powerful about the 'primitive' nature of a man running through the landscape trying to escape, combined with the hi-tec. sophisticated nature of the imaging technique.
Project Description: Three synchronised video projections create a panoramic image across three separate glass screens. The slow-motion footage shows the image of a man running through various types of natural landscape.
